Correspondence from Dr Jane Barton (Clinical Assistant in Elderly Services, The Surgery) to Dr Ian Reid (Clinical Director, Portsmouth Healthcare Trust) re 'Clinical Assistant Elderly Medicine Gosport War Memorial Hosptial'

Dr Jane Barton feels there are a number of factors prompting her to 'examine' her post, including: 1. A review of the arrangement of Elderly Services 2. Clinical and Managerial Integration between the Hospitals Trust and DSCA and the future implosion of acute work at Haslar 3. The 'type and throughput of patients' Dr Barton deals with are 'completely different from those I looked after when i took up the post twelve years ago'. She feels the facilities at the hospital and her work load are not conducive to providing the 'level of care and expertise' people expect. She also adds that the 'current Police investigation into a charge of attempted murder only serves to highlight the almost impossible task faced by a team dedicated to offering seriously ill patients a dignified and peaceful passing'.
